News: 🔄 Missing 'Switch to Classic' in Power Platform: What You Need to Know 🛠️

Starting on October 27, 2023, the access to classic designer for model-driven apps will be more restricted, aligning with the plan to ultimately replace classic designers with modern ones to provide an enhanced and inclusive authoring experience. Please be aware that depending on your environment’s region, the date can differ.

The "Switch to Classic" option will no longer be available by default. No immediate action is needed, but users requiring classic designers can reach out to their admin to enable it (Option 1) or use the direct link to the classic designer (Option 2).

Why do I require the classic designer? Unfortunately, certain features are still not available in the Modern Designer (e.g., embedding Canvas Apps automatically in Model-Driven Apps with ModelDrivenAppIntegration, without manually copying the App-ID). For these tasks, we still need to switch to the Classic Designer as a Maker.

Option 1: Show the Switch to classic buttons in Power Apps

In order to re-activate the button “Switch to classic“ you need to select the desired environment in the Power Platform Admin Center and go to the “Behavior“ settings. This requires System Administrator privileges, for the desired environment.

Activate “Show the Switch to classic buttons in Power Apps“. This option is default off (for new and old environments). More information you can find here: Manage behavior settings - Power Platform | Microsoft Learn

Option 2: Switch to classic designer using the URL and navigate to the desired components
